Additional Product Data
iTe PROTILE•C20 – Standard Ceramic Tile Adhesive is a grey cement-based tile adhesive, formulated around general-purpose wall and floor adhesive for light duty and has been designed for the DIY market. The adhesive can be used for both interior as well as exterior applications. The adhesive is designed to meet C1
adhesive classification according to SANS 52004:2012 / EN 12004:2007 when mixed with iTe BOND.
iTe PROTILE•C20 can have application thicknesses of between 3-6mm and up to 12mm in isolated areas used in conjunction with standard ceramic tiles. This product is only designed for the above-mentioned criteria. Any application falling outside this scope, the applicable purpose-made PROTILE product would
need to be used.
Surfaces must be sound, clean, free of dust, Paint, Bitumen, Gypsum renders and or any other contaminants such as oil, wax, grease etc.
New surfaces must be allowed to cure and dry out sufficiently for at least:
- Concrete: 6-7 weeks
- Sand Cement Screeds: 4 weeks
- Brick Work: 3-4 weeks
- Renders: 10 days
All surfaces should not exceed a moisture content of 5% (75% RH) before tiling commences. Should the moisture content exceed this amount and or no damp proof membrane is used in the floor, VAPORiTe®+PLUS epoxy moisture barrier is to be applied as per the VAPORiTe®+PLUS datasheet
together with iTe SLURRY as the keying agent.
Substrates need to be clean and free from any contaminants, such as oils, waxes, bitumen, greases, dust, old adhesive, or any other contaminants that could compromise the adhesion property of the iTe PROTILE adhesive.
Renders on walls or screeds on floors need to be sound and well bonded to the substrate. Any cracks, brittle surface or hollowness of the render or screed needs to be removed and made good prior to tiling commencing.
Other surfaces:
- Off-shutter concrete, epoxy or polished floor surfaces must be mechanically abraded by means of course grinder or scabbling machine **
- Existing Gypsum skimcoats and PVA paint must mechanically abraded by means of chipping 80% of the application area. **
- Any bitumen or enamel painted surfaces needs to be 100% removed by means of mechanical scraping **
- Any surface with vinyl sheeting or planks will need to be removed and all old fixative removed mechanically scraper or floor grinder. **
** Prime surface by mixing by volume 1 part of iTe PROTILE KEY together with 2 parts of iTe PROTILE BASE or iTe PROTILE C15 and apply in form of a slurry by means of a block brush. Allow for 4-6 hours to cure before proceeding with the tiling.
Use 5.0 liters of water per bag of iTe PROTILE•C20. Do NOT over-water.
Add the powder to the required amount of clean cool water (optimal between 20-25 deg C) in a clean mixing container whilst using a +/-600 rpm electric paddle mixed until a lump free screed is produced. This will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Stop the mixer and scrape the inside of the mixing vessel to allow any unmixed product to fall onto the paste. Briefly remix the iTe PROTILE•C20 again. Use within 3hours of mixing. For best results use a full bag in a single mix.
For all areas that are exposed to high thermal stresses and temperature changes or that require additional flexibility such as tiling on suspended slabs, high traffic areas, exterior or wet areas – replace the water with iTe PROTILE BOND.
Note:
- Hot weather, substrate and water temperature (generally above 30 deg C) may shorten the working life of the adhesive and can even lead to flash setting of the adhesive.
- Low ambient and substrate temperature (below 10 deg C) may compromise the full cure of the adhesive
- Do not add additional water if the adhesive has been standing in the pot for a period of time. This will compromise the final integrity of the adhesive.
Ensure the tiles are dust-free. Apply the adhesive using a notched trowel. iTe PROTILE•C20 can be applied to thicknesses between 3mm and 8mm and up to 10mm.Tiles must be buttered to fill any voids with adhesive where necessary. Press tiles firmly to adhesive using a rubber mallet. Ensure adhesive is in full
contact with the tile or tile can be lifted to check full contact with the adhesive. Do not tile over structural or expansion joints. Do not allow more than 15minutes open time before laying the tiles to avoid adhesive from skinning. To allow 24hours for adhesive to dry before grouting depending on weather conditions.
Allow at least 24 hours for adhesive to dry before grouting with iTe PROTILE GROUT. In Damp conditions replace water in the mix with iTe PROTILE BOND.
Approximately 3 kg of iTe PROTILE•C20 per 1 mm thickness per m2. E.g. one 20kg bag of iTe PROTILE•C20 will give enough material to cover approximately 6m2 at an average thickness of 6mm.
NOTE: The coverage figure is based on a flat level surface. Additional material should be allowed for where the surface is rough or uneven.
All data given was tested at a room temperature of 20 ̊C and 50% humidity. Please be aware that the technical data may alter if the climatic conditions are in contrast to that in which the product has been tested, either hardening more quickly or setting slower.
Do not ingest. Keep away from children and pets. Do not empty into a drain. Wear rubber gloves, and in the event of contamination, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Seek medical advice if irritation or discomfort persists. For further information, consult the relevant health and safety data sheet.
iTe PROTILE•C20 is guaranteed to be free of any manufacturing defect. iTe PRODUCTS further warrants that if iTe PROTILE•C20 is applied in accordance with the relevant method statement issued for the specific project, by an approved applicator, the system is guaranteed for the life of the floorcovering.
